I quite like the cooking idea, also another similar cross cultural activity that comes to mind could be dancing, we could do our traditional dancing wearing traditional clothes.
I had an idea that essentially uses a linguistic approach. This would require us to create a bi-lingual atmosphere amongst a group of friends who all manage to maintain a discussion involving common phrases and hand/body gestures. For example, by watching a person's demeanor, a person may still follow the general meaning of a discussion, even when it takes place in a different language to his own.
